Star Wars rides the half-pipe with Burton snowboards

Lucasfilm found a corner of creation it hadn't merchandised, so Burton is offering new Star Wars-themed boards and an R2-D2 youth helmet.

Rather than ride smelly Taun Tauns while you're looking for Imperial Walkers on the North Ridge, you can scoot over snow in "far, far away" style with limited-edition Star Wars snowboards and protective gear from Burton.

The Burlington, Vt., company and Lucasfilm have teamed up to offer a new series of Chopper Star Wars snowboards for kids and a specially designed Avid Grom R2-D2 youth helmet. And hey, what do you know? Just in time for Christmas!

The board sizes range from 2.5 feet to about 4 feet long and show off eight different images from the original "Star Wars" trilogy, including Yoda, Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, and Boba Fett. They include grippy foot pads and the Riglet Board Reel accessory for board towing. They sell for $189.95 each, but were made in limited quantities for sale online or in Burton retail stores.

The Avid Grom R2-D2 helmet goes for $99.95, packing a polycarbonate shell and the Spin Fit System that allows riders to adjust the fit and helmet's circumference. It arrives on shelves November 15.
