Star Wars Battlefront's Outer Rim DLC will be free to try out from May 13 to May 15 across PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, publisher EA has announced. The limited trial period will allow players the chance to "go hands-on with the maps, modes, and heroes" from the expansion.

"This includes all locations from Jabba's Palace and the Palace Garage on Tatooine, to the SoroSuub Refinery and Pipelines on Sullust," EA explained in a post on the game's website.

"All players will also get to experience our new Outer Rim game mode, Extraction and earn the ability to play as Nien Nunb and Greedo."

Outer Rim is available for $15 and in addition to the four new multiplayer maps, Extraction mode and DLC characters, it introduces new weapons in the form of the Relby V-10 rifle and DT-12 blaster pistol.

Additionally, Outer Rim adds the new Scatter Gun, Dioxis Grenade and Adrenaline Stim Star Cards, as well as raising the level cap to 60 and adding a new Spectator mode.

During the free trial the Outer Rim specific weapons and Star Cards will only be accessible to our Season Pass and Star Wars Battlefront Outer Rim Digital Standalone Pass holders.

Outer Rim is Battlefront's first expansion. Three further add-ons will follow, including Bespin (summer 2016), Death Star (fall 2016) and an untitled expansion coming in early 2017. All are included with the $50 Battlefront DLC pass or can be purchased individually.

EA confirmed on May 10 that Star Wars Battlefront has shipped 14 million copies, which is up from the 13 million in January. Furthermore, it revealed Star Wars Battlefront 2 is in development, and will feature content from the new movies.
