Over the past few days we've been covering a workaround that involves deleting the com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist to alleviate some performance problems in Safari.

On Wednesday and Thursday we posted two AppleScripts that delete the .plist file, and several other potentially problematic files, resulting in several reports from readers of improved Safari performance.

However, some users have experienced problems compiling the posted scripts because of line break formatting problems with certain browsers.

MacFixIt reader Bill Rust has now created a stanadlone AppleScript application that will perform the same functions as the improved script posted yesterday without the need for user-end compilation.

Bill writes:

"I've created a standalone version of the AppleScript (posted on MacFixIt).

"I 'm not the author; I merely compiled a composite script incorporating all the ideas discussed in the thread. I noticed that folks were frequently having problems trying to compile Scripts that were posted online due to line break/line feed copy'n'paste weirdness, so I decided to make a standalone Applet . It is essential that people do read the ReadMe because the script will instantly delete several files as well as empty the trash. I found that deleting these plists did make a significant impact on a number of Safari issues I was experiencing running  under Mac OS X 10.4.1."
