Sound problems with Dual USB iBooks: a follow-up; iBook Audio Update out

Regarding our previous item on a sound problem with Dual USB iBooks, we have some other related reports:

Similar symptom; different solution James Faivre writes of a similar distortion symptom, but suggests a different work-around: "My new iBook 2001 began giving horrible, distorted sound from the built in right speaker. Quitting Entourage solved the issue."

Update: Steve Lombardi called Apple about this and was told to do the following:

    1. Restart with "9.1 All" Extensions Manager set
    2. Delete "Finder Prefs" and "Sound Prefs"
    3. Shut Down (not Restart)
    4. Zap PRAM (restart holding Command-Option-P-R; let the iBook chime 4 times, then let go and let it boot)
    5. Retore your original Extension Manager settings and restart again.

It worked for Steve - at least so far.

Update: Steve Lombardi informs us: "I just ran the Software Update control panel and there was an iBook Audio Update available." Not sure what it does yet; let's hope it fixes these issues.

Sound drop out in iMovie clips Ron Vyskocil writes of another sound-related issue: "The first thing I did with my new iBook Dual USB was to get out my Canon ZR10 and capture a 3 minute clip into iMovie 2.0.3. All went fine until I played it back. The sound drops out numerous times during the 3 minute clip. I can get the sound back if I pause the clip and click play again. I tried the same capture of the same clip on my iMac and the results were flawless."
