If you don't think you can wait until 7 May to get one from Vodafon, or register your interest with Telstra for down the track — Telstra pre-order is "coming soon" — you can pick up an Xperia Z2 from Optus as of today.

Optus is offering the Z2 for AU$16 per month handset repayments on its AU$60 plan. That's 600 minutes of calls, unlimited SMS and MMS and 1.5GB of data. The total cost over two years is AU $1824. You'll also get a free pair of Adidas runners worth AU$190.

Of course, your other option is to buy it outright from Sony for AU$759.

Our reviewer Andrew Hoyle was rather taken with the Z2 saying :

[The] Sony Xperia Z2 is everything you should expect from a top-end phone. Its impressive performance rivals the Samsung Galaxy S5 for smartphone top dog, but the Z2's slick glass and metal design trumps the S5's plastic body. If you're looking for both style and substance from a phone, you've come to the right place.

The phone joins its family member, the equally waterproof Z2 Tablet, already on sale in Australia. Unlike the Z2 smartphone, however, you can pick up the 4G version of the tablet, with 16GB storage, from Telstra now for AU$20 of repayments per month on the AU$35 Telstra Tablet Plan. That's 4GB of data per month, with the total cost over 24 months being AU$1320.
