Sony Ericsson delays Android 2.1 for Xperia line of handsets
Needing a few more weeks to fine tune things, Sony Ericsson is pushing back the release of Android 2.1 for the Xperia X10 to the end of October.
Sony Ericsson used its official product blog to let fans know that it is delaying the release of Android OS 2.1 for their Xperia line of handsets. Originallyfor a September rollout, the company is now looking at late October and beyond.
Sadly, thewill still be nearly a year behind the competition when it finally does see Eclair. While other phones like the Motorola Droid have gone from 2.0 in the same span of time, Sony Ericsson has been behind the curve since day one.
I was a huge fan of this phone when it was initially released overseas as it was among the first and only handsets to feature a 4-inch display and 1GHz processor. Unfortunately, all the hardware in the world does me no good if I cannot get my TweetDeck or Angry Birds fix. Don't get me wrong, Eclair is a major step up from Donut (1.6), but I'm already getting used to some of Froyo's.
Sony Ericsson did not disclose which carriers would see the 2.1 update first, nor what order the rollout will take. AT&T only recently began offering the Xperia X10 so it's hard to gauge where they fall in terms of priority.
