Sonnet ATA66 card requires reformatting of attached drives? Ric Spiegel informs us that Sonnet confirmed that, after installing their Sonnet ATA66 card, drives attached to the card will need to be reinitialized before they will work with the card. Sonnet wrote: You aren't the only one who has brought this up so it's probably important that we include it somewhere on our Web site. Firmware update needed On a similar note, Dan Froehlich writes: "I've had my new Western Digital 20GB drive attached to a Sonnet ATA66 card become unmountable 2 times in the last 2 weeks. The card is installed in a PM 7500 G3, OS 8.6 upgraded with a PowerLogix G3 card. I've formatted the drive as a single HFS Plus volume. It seems to happen after a hard shut down. To get it to work again, he had to disconnect the drive from the controller, boot from a CD, reconnect the drive and update the driver with Drive Setup. he contacted Sonnet about this and they replied: We've had some people report problems with formatting Western Digital drives with HFS Plus and our Tempo card. The work-around seems to be formatting it as a Standard drive and then erasing the drive via the Special menu once it mounts on the desktop. Choose Extended format for that erase and it works great. Also, there is a firmware update for the Tempo card available. This card is made for us by Acard (and you can get it from their site). Eventually we'll have it posted to our Web site. I'd suggest updating the firmware as it's been fixing all sorts of bugs people have reported. Make sure no drive is attached to the Tempo card when you do the firmware upgrade.
