The change to daylight-savings time over the weekend and the loss of an hour's sleep is painful enough, especially for Indiana residents reacquainting themselves with the ritual early Sunday morning. But some Treo 700w users might have also forced themselves to get up extra early on Monday for appointments that didn't adjust on their calendars.

Palm has detected an issue that is unique to users of the Treo 700w, Palm's first handheld to use Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system. Smart phones that were set to network time over the weekend automatically adjusted their internal clocks, but calendar appointments that were created on the Treo failed to move forward, a Palm representative said. As of Monday morning, Palm does not know what caused the problem, and a fix has not yet been released. Palm does not know if it is a Palm-related issue or a problem at Verizon, the exclusive carrier for the Treo 700w. The issue does not affect Palm OS-based Treos, the representative said.

In the meantime, users can visit a page on Palm's Web site that explains the problem. If the Treo was set to a local time zone, those appointments knew that daylight savings time was coming and adjusted accordingly. Network time automatically updates the time on a Treo when it is activated in a new time zone, but appointments created on that Treo apparently aren't as perceptive.

Appointments created in Outlook and then synced to the Treo should adjust properly, but Palm is advising users to turn off network time if they need to create future appointments on their phones. They can use the time spent waiting for everyone else to arrive at the meeting to delete and recreate calendar appointments with the correct time.
