Solving a missing server startup stall: more suggestions

CNET staff
Regarding our previous coverage (one and two) of a stall at startup when the Mac tries to load a server that is not currently available, we received several additional suggestions: If you don't need that server to ever automatically load at startup, just delete the alias for it in the Servers folder of your System Folder. Alternatively, move the alias to your desktop and mount the server manually when desired by double-clicking the alias. [Greg Leaman and Vic Erosa] Rather than use the "Open at Startup" option, place an alias to the server volume in Startup Items folder. The server will now mount after startup is complete. The only tradeoff is that you will need to enter your password manually. [Peter Forsyth] Otherwise, to shorten the length of the delay, "use the AppleShare Client Setup program. This utility is also very useful because it can remove a user's ability to check the 'Open at Startup' checkbox in the first place."
