Solution for deleting and then adding a printer under Mac OS X

CNET staff

MacFixIt reader Mitch writes "I have one Hewlett Packard Laser printer under Mac OS X 10.2.6 that I have set up to print with as LPR using IP. I intended to delete a print job and deleted the printer by mistake. The print center would not allow me to add a printer with the same IP address, but I didn ot want to change the printer IP address."

The solution is to modify the following file: /etc/cups/printers.conf.0

Change the IP address that matches the printer IP address to an IP address that does not exist.

Since the old IP address no longer exists as an occupied space, you will be able to re-add the printer without modification, or install a new printer with the same IP address as your old printer.
