The app has been a staple for many photographers on iOS for quite a while. Snapseed's popularity came from its simple user interface, yet it still allowed the user to perform more complex editing tasks on a mobile device.

Earlier this year, Google bought out Nik Software, the makers of Snapseed and a whole range of other apps and software geared towards photographers. Speculation also ran rife when Google's Vic Gundotra posted an image on Google+ in October that was taken with the app.

Though Snapseed used to be a paid app, it is now free on both Android and iOS. Android users will need to be running 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) or later to use the app. iOS users can update the app to get some additional filters.
