Slow browser startup due to extra plug-in alias

Slow browser startup due to extra plug-in alias

CNET staff

Reggie Barton reports that in at least some cases, slow browser startup can be caused by the presence of unnecessary plug-in aliases, or duplicate plug-ins.

The fix for the problem, in Barton's case, was to go in the "Macintosh HD/Library/InternetPlugIns" folder and delete two extra RealPlayer aliases that appeared. Barton says he attempted to install the RealOne player while Safari was the default browser.

If you are having problems with slow browser launch times, try checking your Macintosh HD/Library/InternetPlugIns folder and making sure there are no extraneous or out-of-place plug-ins or plug-in aliases.
