SkyLINE update fixes Mac OS 9.1 and AirPort conflicts

CNET staff
Regarding our previous report of problems using Farallon SkyLINE cards with AirPort 1.3 and/or Mac OS 9.1, William Wilson writes: "Some users of PowerBook G3 (especially the Lombard series) who upgraded to OS 9.1 had difficulty with their Farallon SkyLINE 11MB PC Card. The card would either cause freezes or be unable to find the AirPort Base Station - even if sitting only a foot or two away. Farallon has released a new driver that they hope fixes this problem. I tried it and it indeed fixed the problem for me. I did not need to update the firmware in my SkyLINE card."

Here is the statement from Farallon:

"Thank you for your patience with the incompatibilities between SkyLINE Wireless 11Mb PC Card and Mac OS 9.1. We were able to make a couple of observations last week that gave us a good indication of what might be causing the trouble. We have created a new 2.4a2 version of the driver which has had success in solving the problem so far.

In addition to the installer for the new version of the driver, this package also includes a firmware updater (which will not work with your current version of the driver). Once you've installed the new driver, you can use the firmware updater to install the new 8c3 firmware onto your card. This may also help."
