Short Take: Xylan expands OmniSwitch ATM capabilities

Xylan announced it has expanded the ATM capabilities of its OmniSwitch product family with the CSM-622, an OC-12c/STM-4 ATM switching module. The addition of the new module gives OmniSwitch customers new options for creating high-speed ATM backbone networks. The CSM-622 solves the key issue of congestion on ATM links. The module can determine whether output ports are congested or available, and, if necessary, store incoming data until those ports are free, according to the company. The CSM-622 is now available in both one-port and two-port models, each available with a choice of single mode and multimode fiber optic interfaces. List prices for the products range from $15,500 to $20,550 depending on the options installed.
