Compaq Computer has chosen Peter Hellman, former TRW president and chief operating officer, as its new chief executive and will announce the pick next week during its second quarter conference call, CNBC reported today. Sources last week told CNET News.com that Compaq may announce its new CEO during the second quarter conference on July 28 and that Hellman was the lead candidate. TRW has been a longtime customer of Compaq.
