Short Take: Deadline looms for school and library Net discounts

March 18 is the deadline for schools and libraries to apply for Net access discounts through the Schools and Libraries Corporation. The nonprofit organization's Web site leads applicants through the process for obtaining up to $2.5 billion annually in discounts provided by the telecommunications industry; 30,000 applications already have been received. The corporation, set up by the Federal Communications Commission, has been under fire by a group of senators who question the commission's authority.
