Short: Sirf announced its global positioning system

Sirf Technology of Sunnyvale, California, unveiled its Sirfstar Global Positioning System. The satellites transmit signals using spread-spectrum technology at 1.6 GHz. The company said the product helps overcome obstacles such as interference from trees and tunnels, deflection off of buildings, and slow signals that have delayed GPS technology. The GRF1 converts the satellite's RF spread spectrum into digital inputs for the signal processor chip, the GSP1. The GSP1 and GRF1 cost $49.95 per pair in 10,000 KU and will be available in October.
