SGI adds faster CPUs

SGI has upgraded its Unix servers and workstations with faster, 550MHz and 600MHz versions of its MIPS 14000A CPU, the company said Tuesday. Previous models ran at clock speeds of 360MHz and 400MHz. The chips are available now in its high-end Origin 3000 and Onyx 3000 products and its lower-end Octane2 workstations. The Mountain View, Calif., company also cut prices of entry-level Octane2 models by 13 percent.
