"Too many processes" warning We've received reports from some readers who are receiving an error message indicating "too many processes" are running after applying Security Update 2007-004 1.1.

The error message generally appears when attempting to perform specific Finder operations, like copying files or mounting disk images.

MacFixIt reader Peter Newland writes:

"After the last Apple Update I have been getting almost constantly the message 'too many processes running' on a machine which has run many programs at once for nearly 12 months. I've removed/disabled virtually every auto start programs / preference pane but still get the message when trying to launch another program or mount a dmg. Yesterday it refused to copy files citing the same reason."

"The machine is currently 'under running' compared to the last 12 months. It's become very frustrating over the last 3 days. No new programs running. Tried clearing all caches, running Onyx, rebooting and hanging a garlic bag around the screen, all to no avail."
