Security Update 2007-004 1.1 (#2): instructions clarified

As we reported previously, the revised version (1.1) of Security Update 2007-004 is explicitly said by Apple to fix two of the most severe, pervasive, and readily isolated problems reported in connection with the original Security Update 2007-004 release:

Do not update unnecessarily If you've already applied the original Security Update 2007-004, and if you're using Tiger (10.4.9) and you're not running Mac OS X Server, then this revised Security Update does not affect you. You won't see the Security Update reappear in your Software Update. Presuming all is well, you should not download and apply version 1.1, as it adds nothing.

It probably does no harm to apply the revised update even if you don't need it, but such a procedure is not recommended, as there is always a risk inherent when applying system updates. If you do download and apply version 1.1 over a successfully applied original Security Update 2007-004, and if any trouble results, please make that clear in any communication with us.

Note that the new update, if downloaded as a distinct package (as we advise), has the same name as before (its name begins with "SecUpd2007-004..."). It can be distinguished from the previous package only by the version number, which may be consulted in the Finder (using Get Info if necessary).

Update carefully If you do install the revised Security Update 2007-004, please pay attention to our recommended procedure for applying software updates.

Feedback If you had issues with the original Security Update 2007-004, did version 1.1 fix them? Please let us know how things go!
