Yesterday we reported on the release of Security Update 2004-09-07 revision 1.1, which fixes the following bugs contained in the original release of the update:

  1. Corrects the path to the file containing users who are not permitted to use FTP. When this file cannot be found (as in the default installation of v1.0), FTP will not authorize any users. The ability to use long login names is also restored.
  2. The Safari version number is changed to provide compatibility with web sites that incorrectly identify Safari as a different browser.

Readers have noted a few minor issues with the re-release:

Persistently displayed in Software Update Several readers report that the update continually appears in Software Update, even after it has been (apparently) successfully installed.

Antonio Ferraioli writes "I'm running on a PowerBook G4 Titanium 800, with Mac OS X Client 10.3.5. I installed the update and restarted the computer. If I select Software Update from the Apple Menu again, I get again the Software Update windows asking me to install the update. I tried three times, always the same result

Hugh Dixson corroborates "I have installed this upgrade on 3 different systems (all Mac OS X 10.3.5) using software update. In each case, despite installing the upgrade several times, software update keeps telling me that the update is available and re-downloads it and installs it." Dr

APC devices no longer recognized Dennis O'Leary writes "Since I applied this latest security update my APC backup XS 1000 is not recognized by the PowerChute personal edition version 1.3.1 software. I have a G4 450 with OS X 10.3.5 I have tried reinstalling and checking permissions but nothing has helped."
