Secunia: "shared_region_map_file_np()" Denial of Service in Mac OS X
Secunia passes along word that Adriano Lima has discovered a vulnerability in Apple Mac OS X, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to cause a DoS (Denial of Service).
The article states:
"The vulnerability is caused due to an error in the 'shared_region_map_file_np()"'syscall and can cause the system to become unresponsive by providing a high 'mapping_count' value.
"The vulnerability is confirmed on Mac OS X 10.4.8 (PPC). Other versions may also be affected. Solution: Grant only trusted users access to affected systems."
A code example that will trigger this denial of service can be found here.
