Seagate's new and flexible GoFlex family of external storage devices got a little more flexible on Monday when the company introduced the latest addition to the family, the GoFlex Home network storage system.

It's an NAS server that turns any desktop version of the GoFlex external hard drive into a network storage solution. It comes with a Gigabit Ethernet port to connect to an existing network, such as a router or a hub.

According to Seagate, the new NAS server works with both PCs and Macs and is compatible with Apple's Time Machine. It also supports the DLNA media-streaming standard so you can stream digital content stored on the connected external hard drive to any DLNA-compliant devices, such as game consoles or a GoFlex TV HD media player.

The server is available in 1TB and 2TB capacities. Thanks to its modular design, however, you can upgrade or replace its storage by using any GoFlex Desk hard drives, including the recently announced 3TB version . Additionally, the GoFlex Home storage comes with a USB port so you can attach it to a printer or add more external storage.

Seagate also offers a premium service option called "Seagate Share Pro remote access service," which allows you to access content stored on the NAS server from mobile devices such as an iPhone, iPad or BlackBerry, and to integrate photos or files with Facebook and Flickr.

The GoFlex Home network storage server is available now. The 2TB version is slated to cost $230 and the 1TB version will be $160.
