Screen captures while running DVD Player: More workarounds

Yesterday we noted that Apple makes it difficult (but not impossible) to perform screen captures when running the DVD Player application. This restriction is an intended feature of Apple's DVD Player, likely due to copyright issues.

We previously reported that users can workaround the protection by entering the following command in the Terminal: screencapture -c.

A few other solutions also exist.

Alternative player Several readers, including Gabriel Dorado, note that some alternative DVD playing applications, like VLC, are not subject to Apple's screen capture restrictions.

Screen capture utilities A number of shareware utilities can capture the screen while Apple's DVD Player is running, overriding the normal restrictions. They include:
