If you've been looking for a way to get video from your iPod, iPad, or iPhone to your vehicle's rear seat entertainment system, Scosche may have a solution for you with its SneakPeek auto. This combination cable and charger adds an iPod input to any in-car video receiver with RCA connections.
Externally, the SneakPeek auto's construction is rather simple. The 9-foot shielded cable features a 30-pin Apple dock connector on one end and a trio of analog gold- and nickel-plated RCA connections at the other. Somewhere along the line, there's a black box that handles the connection conversion, as well as power and ground leads for connecting to the vehicle's 12-volt power. Once, connected the SneakPeek auto will allow users to send iPod, AirVideo, YouTube, and Netflix videos, photo slide shows, and Keynote presentations to any composite A/V input in their car, whether it be a rear seat entertainment system or an in-dash video receiver.
Because the SneakPeek auto is connected to the car's power supply, it can also charge the connected iDevice with 2.1 amps of power, which is enough to juice even the iPad. However, that same semipermanent connection will likely limit portability. You won't be toting the SneakPeek auto from vehicle to vehicle without a bit of preparation. Users can also flip a switch to disable video output while retaining the capability to charge.
With an MSRP of $74.99, the Scosche SneakPeek auto is no impulse purchase. While you're mulling it over, check out the video below to see it in action.
