School chalks up McAfee alliance
The Rochester Institute of Technology is tapping McAfee for a master's program in computer security and information assurance.
McAfee is partnering with the Rochester Institute of Technology to help launch a master's program in computer security and information assurance. As part of the effort, the security software maker has donated more than $1 million in intrusion prevention technology to RIT's B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences.
RIT said that the IT security program will draw on expertise from its computer science, information technology and software engineering departments. Part of McAfee's donation will go toward helping faculty develop courses in computer and network security, to be offered at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, it added. Students will train in such courses as network security and forensics, wireless security and computer system forensics. McAfee's software will be used in the computer system security course, in which undergraduate students must attack and attempt to infiltrate other students' computer systems.
