SAP opens Pennsylvania research center

As part of its U.S. expansion plans, German software giant SAP announced the opening of its new research center in Newtown Square, Pa., home of the company's SAP America subsidiary. SAP developed the new facility as part of expansion efforts of its U.S. campus unveiled last fall. The SAP Global Solution Center serves as a meeting place where SAP developers and experts can join customers, partners and other industry leaders to create new software products for individual companies and certain industries. Final construction of the new center is expected to be completed by the end of 2001. The center employs more than 70 people. SAP plans to increase that number to approximately 120 employees by the end of the year. Partners participating in introductory projects at the center include Compaq Computer, EMC, Hewlett-Packard, IBM and others.
