SanDisk debuts 128GB microSD

SanDisk has launched the world's first microSD card with a capacity of 128GB.

Stuck with a 8GB phone? Your woes may soon be over. SanDisk has announced the largest capacity microSD card to date, the 128GB SanDisk Ultra microSDXC UHS-1, delivering twice the speed of ordinary microSD cards.

The new card can fit, according to SanDisk, 16 hours of full HD video, 7500 songs, 3200 photos and over 125 apps, all on a form factor the size of a fingernail.

The card will not, of course, be compatible with older phones that use the SDHC format.

"SanDisk's high-performance 128GB SanDisk Ultra microSDXC memory card will reshape the way users interact with their devices," said SanDisk's Stuart Robinson. "Until now, consumers had to spread out their content between multiple products because the memory on those devices was not able to hold enough data in one place. This 128GB microSD card is going to be popular as the preferred removable storage option, giving users fast, secure and reliable access to their personal data archives."

The new card is designed to be compatible with Android phones and tablets, and a compatible app, the SanDisk Memory Zone, is available through Google Play to allow users to easily view, access and back up all their files. The app is also compatible with the SanDisk Ultra Dual USB Drive for easily transferring files between your phone and a PC.

The card will be available for US$199.99 from Best Buy and Amazon in the US. Local pricing and availability is yet to be announced.
