The Samsung Wave 2 is crashing over the White Cliffs of Dover and into UK shops, available to buy today from O2 and Phones4u.

The Wave 2 laps up after the Samsung Wave, a phone whose hardware we rather appreciated. The sequel was released over in Germany back in October, and is only now making its way to British pockets. It's looking like another scrumptious lump of mobile tech though, with a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus, and a 3.7-inch LCD touchscreen with a resolution of 480x800 pixels.

There's 2GB of storage, expandable up to 32GB with a microSD card, and most perhaps most interesting of all, a 1GHz processor lurking in the Wave 2's innards.

Hopefully that can keep this phone running swiftly, without the juddery lag that's been the ruin of so many smart-phone pretenders.

The Wave 2 will be packing Bada OS 1.2, Samsung's basic own-brand mobile operating system, which to be honest puts the willies right up us. We thought the first Wave delivered in terms of pure hardware, but was let down by its unintuitive OS, which failed to live up to the lofty heights of Android and the iPhone. Could this prove to be another wave of mutilation?

Still, Samsung reckons its Social Hub application -- which syncs your social networks, email and IM accounts with your contacts book -- will tickle users' fancy.

If you catch this new Wave before 31 March, Samsung will throw in a free entertainment package redeemable when you visit this website. The bundle features five games, including Need for Speed: Shift, FIFA 10, Monopoly, Tetris and Assassin's Creed: Altair's Chronicles. Whether a sprinkling of free games will be enough to tempt buyers remains to be seen -- you could get loads more free games if you bought an Android phone.

The Samsung Wave 2 can be yours for free for £20 per month on an 18-month contract with O2 -- check out other deals by clicking right here.
