Samsung Pay, the phonemaker's mobile payments app, expands its digital payment reach by adding support for virtual gift cards. Owners of the Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge+, and Note 5 can now store gift cards from 50 retailers like Staples, and Toys 'R' Us, and can use a new in-app store to buy gift cards as well.

After years of slow development, mobile payment services are gaining traction. Smartphone-based purchases are expected to eclipse $100 billion in the next three years, according to eMarketer. Samsung Pay battles Apple Pay, Google's Android Pay and now Walmart Pay as customers' mobile wallet.

Samsung Pay is accepted at pay terminals around the US and South Korea. Read up on Samsung Pay here.
