Samsung's new pink gold option.

On Wednesday, Samsung announced that it would release another colour option for the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge flagship phones. Say hello to "pink gold," which joins the storied ranks of black onyx, gold platinum, white pearl and silver titanium.

Following in the footsteps of Apple, which released a rose gold variant of its iPhone 6S and 6S Plus in late 2015, Samsung says the new colour scheme is "intended to soothe and incorporate a touch of gentleness, radiance and sophistication". The South Korean tech company is known to be a little elaborate when it comes to the Galaxy range, so we can forgive the embellishment.

The move is also likely another stab at the saturated Asian smartphone market, with the rose gold iPhone causing a "preorder frenzy" in China last year. Making its debut in Samsung's home country of Korea, the phone will find its way to other select markets soon. We've reached out to Samsung, but have yet to hear which markets those might be.
