The next-generation Samsung Galaxy S6 could be quite the doozy, if the latest gossip proves to be accurate.

Taking a page out of Apple's playbook (surprise!), the upcoming device might boast a glass backside with a non-removable battery, according to tech site Droid Life. Both would be firsts for Samsung, a company that has long stood by plastic materials and removable batteries, and may be the breath of fresh air needed to jumpstart Samsung sales again.

Whereas 2014's top Androids came with 3GB RAM, the next-generation Samsung could pack a redonkulous 4GB of memory, says Webtrek. It isn't uncommon for the phonemaker to offer different hardware configurations for various markets so it's possible a 4GB edition could be reserved for specific territories.

In addition to the standard model, we're hearing that a dual-edge variant could feature a unique wrap-around display similar to the one found on the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge , but with active interface displays found on both sides of the device, not just the right.

Why would we want this kind of Samsung Galaxy 6 "Edge"? A SamMobile source indicates it would allow for easy use for both the left- and right-handed crowd. Additionally, a Glance Lighting feature could light up the edges for calls and notifications; users may be able to assign colors to contacts.

If the idea of two strips of extra screen sounds like something only Samsung would do, it's not. LG was at CES earlier this month, demonstrating a concept device that offered the exact same experience.

As often is the case with a high profile smartphone like the Galaxy S series, these rumors and leaks are to be taken lightly. The good news is there are only a few months to go before we may see what Samsung has been cooking up for 2015. The bad news is, there is still plenty of time for conflicting reports.
