The Galaxy S4 Zoom was more a camera with a mobile phone attached, and the S5 Zoom will follow suit if the rumours are to be believed. Detailed specifications that appeared on benchmarking site GFXBench point to a souped-up image sensor and a hexa-core CPU.

Running Android 4.4.2 KitKat, the device may sport a 19-megapixel image sensor with an output resolution of 5184x3888. Rather than the 4K recording that the S5 is capable of, the S5 zoom looks set to get just full HD (1920x1080) video.

The leaked specification sheet says nothing about the focal length of the zoom lens, so it may remain the same as its predecessor at 10x optical zoom and an aperture range of f/3.1 to f/6.3. The specs also point to a front-facing camera with a 2-megapixel resolution and a hexa-core 1300MHz processor, as opposed to the quad-core Snapdragon 801 that appears in the flagship S5.

On the screen side, the S5 Zoom looks like it gets a decent upgrade from the S4 Zoom, at 1280x720 and measuring 4.8 inches (compared to 960x540 and 4.3 inches). This means that the handset could feasibly look like the Galaxy Camera in overall dimensions, which also has a 4.8-inch screen.

The S5 Zoom may be the first in a line of branded phones from Samsung that bear the Galaxy S5 name, if history is anything to go by. To accompany the S4, Samsung also released the Galaxy S4 Mini and the Galaxy S4 Active. Unlike many of Samsung's regular handsets which are made available through carriers, the S4 Zoom was sold through selected retailers and the Samsung Experience store.
