If this last couple of weeks has taught us anything, it's that we could all do with a bit of waterproofing. And with just a few days to go before it's announced, the latest rumours suggest the hotly-tipped Samsung Galaxy S5 will be waterproof and dust-proof.

Anyone who's ever sacrificed a phone on the altar of a toilet, drink or flooded county will appreciate the possibility of a waterproofed phone. The current Samsung flagship isn't waterproof but does have a drink-denying spin-off: the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active.

Recent leaks also point to an eye-melting screen for the S5, with a resolution of 1,440x2,560 pixels. With the phone repotted to measure 5.2 inches, that's a hugely detailed 560 pixels per inch.

The S5 will be unveiled next Monday evening. Samsung will reveal the new phone at Mobile World Congress, the annual mobile phone and tablet hoedown kicking off this weekend in Barcelona -- and we'll be there to bring you your first look at the new S5, including glossy videos, detailed photos and must-see first impressions of the phone in action. In the meantime, see the story behind the S5 with its origins in past phones:
