Samsung has dropped a great big clanging hint at what we can expect from the Samsung Galaxy S4 -- namely a 5-inch high-definition screen.

Alongside its futuristic prototypes at CES, the annual technology trade show in Las Vegas, Samsung highlighted the progression of its screen technology from 2010 to the first quarter of 2013 -- which is when a certain unnamed phone arrives.

The unknown phone boasts a 5-inch, 1080p high-definition screen. Samsung promises even higher definition than HD: 440 pixels per inch to be precise, trumping the iPhone 5's 326ppi with a level of detail that will massage your retinas like never before.

Given its position at the top of the Samsung roadmap, the projected release date in the first three months of this year, and that eye-poppingly premium screen, it's a cinch that's the S4 we're talking about.

The S4 is expected to be revealed in February or March. With the current S3 selling over 40 million, and its predecessor the S2 doing the same, it's fair to say the S4 is odds on to be another smash hit.

Word on the street expects the S4 to boast a 2GHz quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM and a super-tough screen. We've also got our fingers crossed for a 13-megapixel camera, while one thing that could be missing is the home button

Speaking of future phones, Samsung showed off an astonishing prototype curved display at CES last week. The paper-thin 4.5-inch AMOLED display can be bent in a wave or an arc shape without shattering, like one of those plastic rulers you broke in school. Samsung's flexible screens are known by the name Youm, but we probably won't see them on phones any time soon.
