The water- and shock-resistant version of the Samsung Galaxy S4 has been announced for Australia today. The handset will be available directly through Samsung stores at an outright price of AU$699. It will soon be available outright through a range of Australian mobile retailers.

Vodafone has also announced that the S4 Active — which can survive being immersed in 1 metre of water for up to 30 minutes — will be on contract exclusively available on its network.

Although pricing structures will be released next week, Vodafone representatives confirmed to CNET Australia that the exclusive will last for three months.

The S4 Active will be available in "urban grey", with an additional orange back cover for an alternative high-visibility look.
