The Samsung Galaxy R will be the first Galaxy smart phone to pack the dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 chip. The Android-powered phone will arrive hard on the heels of the popular Samsung Galaxy S2 -- and it will even have its own games.

Previous Galaxies have used Samsung's own 1GHz Hummingbird Cortex-A8 processor. Other phones powered by the Tegra chip include the LG Optimus 2XMotorola Atrix, Motorola Droid X2, and Motorola Photon 4G. The latter two haven't made it across the pond yet, sadly.

As well as the usual Android apps and games, there'll be a selection of 'console-quality' games set up to make the most of the powerful Tegra chip in the Tegra Zone app. Games include Fruit Ninja and, er, Solitaire.

The R's GeForce graphics chip fires up the 4.2-inch screen with a resolution of 480x800 pixels, and there's 8GB of internal memory for storing 1080p high-definition video. The 5-megapixel camera shoots 720p high-definition footage.

There's a 2-megapixel camera for video calling too. To see the phone in action, running Android 2.3 Gingerbread, have a squizz at Nvidia's video, which includes a quick look at the Tegra Zone.

The R slots into the Galaxy range somewhere between the 5-inch Galaxy Q and hugely popular Galaxy S2. We await the Galaxy P and Galaxy T with bated breath, as do the cast of Sesame Street.

Samsung hasn't decided when the R will go on sale here in Blighty, but it is in the hands of lucky Swedes already. Samsung has said the phone's 'coming soon' to the rest of Europe and Asia.
