If you can't decide between a tablet or a smart phone, then rock down to Avenue Q with the Samsung Galaxy Q. The rumoured 5-inch Android device is a combination of tablet and smart phone.

If you can't decide between a tablet or a smart phone, then rock down to Avenue Q with the Samsung Galaxy Q. The rumoured 5-inch Android device is a combination of tablet and smart phone, meeting somewhere in the middle.

Yahoo News Korea reports the 5.3-inch device will take a bow at fast-approaching technology blow-out IFA in Berlin in September. It's not clear whether this Q will be an omnipotent entity with a playful sense of humour and some life lessons to impart.

The Q sits somewhere between the Samsung Galaxy S 2 and the original Samsung Galaxy Tab, a 7-inch tablet. Further up the range are the Galaxy Tab 8.9 and Galaxy Tab 10.1, rivalling the 9.7-inch iPad 2. The Q is preceded by the 4.2-inch Galaxy R, also officially announced today.

Apple will certainly be interested to hear more about the Galaxy Q and R. Jobs and co are locked in an ongoing spat with Samsung over claims the Galaxy range rips off the iPad and iPhone.

The Q's closest direct rival is the Dell Streak, an oversized 5-inch smart phone with a massive screen and tonnes of features. Devices that hover around the 5-inch mark push the limits of a gadget that you can hold up to your face without looking daft, but they do give you a big screen that has a chance of fitting in your pocket.

Earlier this summer, Samsung's boss of mobile kit hinted at a 4G tablet, saying "the race for 4G has already started". He also said 4G tablets are "inevitable" because of the way this sort of device guzzles data. Could the Q be the tablet he was referring to? The word on the street is that the Q will use a 4G, next-generation mobile Internet connection for faster Web surfing on the go.

That's great, but here in Blighty we don't have the infrastructure to make the most of 4G devices yet. Hopefully, the more 4G phones and tablets that hit the market, the more phone networks will invest in beefing up their 3G networks to 4G.

Are you excited about a 4G, 5-inch tablet-cum-phone? Is 5 inches too big, too small or just right? Let us know in the comments or join the Q on our Facebook page.
