Galaxy Note 7 might let you do your Spanish homework underwater
With official launch of the Galaxy Note 7 still days away, purported details and photos of the phone are now already online.
This is the Galaxy Note 5, but the Note 7 will be announced on August 2nd.
By the time Samsung officially unwraps the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 on Tuesday, August 2, there may be no more secrets to tell.
The company has already begun a teaser campaign for the Note 7 on Korean TV that strongly hinted that the new phone is water-resistant, like the other members of 2016's Galaxy S7 family. Then, TalkAndroid.com spilled on a host of supposed features. And 9to5Google rounded out the leaks with a trove of alleged information, including some very credible-looking photos.
While all such leaks should always be taken with a grain of salt, the reported details about the phone are pretty much what you'd expect from the Korean giant's bigger, better Galaxy phone for the second half of the year.
Among the reported specs:
- It would be the first phone to utilize Corning's Gorilla Glass 5, giving it a tough, durable screen.
- The phone is waterproof and has a curved screen that wraps around both sides.
- Using software on the phone, the S Pen (also said to be waterproof) can translate anything you write into another language.
- There's a new iCloud-style data protection feature that offers online backup for all your digital "stuff," with 5GB of free storage included.
- It features a USB-C connector, but include a USB-C to microUSB adapter to connect older peripherals.
- The Note 7 will go on sale at T-Mobile and other carriers on August 19.
The story goes on to validate most of the other rumors that have already become part of the generally accepted Note 7 feature list, including a 5.7-inch screen, 12-megapixel camera, expandable microSD storage a big, beefy battery and even an iris scanner.
Samsung did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the 9to5Google story.
Whether each detail is true, false, or somewhere in between will be revealed on Tuesday morning in New York City when Samsung unveils the phone to the world. CNET will have complete coverage of the event at that time.
