Samsung Galaxy Alpha not as high end as initially thought, leak shows
The device, which was believed to be the new high-end smartphone for Samsung, will apparently come with a 720p display, rather than the 1080p some had expected.
Samsung's long-rumored Galaxy Alpha -- also known as Galaxy Prime or Galaxy F, depending on the rumor -- may not be the flagship handset to take on the iPhone 6 as some initially thought.
The upcoming Samsung smartphone, believed to be known as the Galaxy Alpha, will come with a 4.8-inch screen sporting a 720p resolution, Samsung-tracking site Sammobile reported Monday, citing the company's developer console. A flagship handset with all the bells and whistles would typically ship with a bigger screen and a resolution that hits 1080p or even greater.
Samsung has yet to even confirm that it's working on a new handset. However, over the last several months, several rumors have cropped up suggesting that the company is developing a new flagship handset that will come with higher-end features than its current top-end device, the Galaxy S5.
It was initially believed that the handset would come with a 5-inch-or-larger screen and a 2,560x1,440-pixel resolution display. Rumors also suggested the device would feature Qualcomm's quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor.
All of the hype surrounding the device was lifted recently, however, when a report surfaced, saying that it wouldn't be quite so high end and that it would sport a 4.8-inch screen and lower-end internal components. This latest leak simply confirms the previous rumor.
