Safari won't launch: Try re-installing from Mac OS X disc with Pacifist

CNET staff

On numerous occasions we've covered an issue where Safari fails to properly launch. Most of the workarounds we've previously discussed for this problem are listed in our tutorial "What to do when a Mac OS X application will not launch."

However, we've recently received reports indicating that (failing all solutions in the aforementioned tutorial) re-installing Safari from the Mac OS X installation disc that shipped with your Mac then re-applying the most recent Mac OS X combo updater (available from Apple's downloads page) can resolve this issue.

In order to perform this process, you might want to use the tips listed in another tutorial, "Re-installing Apple applications from a Mac OS X disc/update package using Pacifist."
