Safari shuts down Opera? Apple's decision to enter the Mac browser market may be forcing Opera out, according to a CNET report. "Opera Software expressed significant doubts it would continue producing a browser for the Macintosh operating system, illustrating a growing problem for third-party Mac developers as Apple Computer steps up its own application development efforts." AT&T Wireless to offer AirPort in hotels AT&T Wireless Services Inc. has signed an agreement with Wayport Inc. to give subscribers high-speed, wireless Web access at more than 475 hotels and several airports with a technology called Wi-Fi, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday.

TiVo's Super Bowl analysis According to a study by TiVo, a Super Bowl commercial featuring a fictional linebacker got better ratings than any of the real football action, "a symbolic reflection that most viewers tune into the annual event to watch the commercials and not the game." Reebok's commercial featuring fictional "Office Linebacker Terry Tate" was the most watched commercial in TiVo households that tuned into Super Bowl. More.

Mac OS X 10.2 wins InfoWorld award Mac OS X 10.2.x is the recipient of InfoWorld's Technology of the Year award. "Apple's Mac OS X, patched last year to Version 10.2, combines much of what's best about Mac OS, Windows, and Unix. Its open-source roots lend it immediate respectability and encourage the porting of existing Unix software. OS X's quick, silky-smooth GUI and standard apps on the client side, and its inclusive collection of services in the Server edition, will give Windows the best fight it's ever had." More.
