Problems running Java applets -- fix Users continue to report issues with running specific Java applets after updating to Safari 3.1.

MacFixIt reader Hal Staniloff writes:

"Can't load any Java applet's from adds.aviationweather.gov.  Any suggestions are appreciated."

Weiyun adds:

"Just to report that since upgrading to Safari 3.1 (from 2.0.4), I've been having trouble running a Java applet from netdania.com/>. Its ChartStation function (a charting applet on foreign exchange and gold etc) would no longer work, and comes back with an 'Invalid copyright parameter' message."

A fix that has worked for various other Safari 3.1 issues has also proven successful for this problem: changing the user agent. To do this, you first need to enable the develop menu. Go to the "Safari" menu, then "Preferences," then "Advanced" and select "Show Develop menu in menu bar." The Develop menu will appear in the menubar. Select in, then avigate down to the "User Agent" section of this menu and note the various browsers available as user agents.

One reader reports success with the selection 'Internet Explorer 7.0.

Exorbitant processor usage Some users have reported excessive processor usage after updating to Safari 3.1. Hendrik W. M. van Eeden writes:

"After updating Safari to version 3.1 it has a tendency to hog the CPU up to 200% on a MacPro two dual core machine running 10.5.2. It seem that it only does this when viewing the MarketWatch Portfolio screen, whether using live quote updates or not."
