Input Managers are bad news bears for the Safari beta.

Reminder: Remove Input Managers Perhaps the single most effective and broadly applicable fix (as previously recommended) for a bevy of issues under Safari 3.0 beta -- ranging from persistent crashes to problems loading pages to failure to launch -- is to delete any and all Input Managers.

This can be accomplished by quitting Safari then emptying the following directories:

  • /Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/
  • Library/InputManagers
  • ~/Library/InputManagers

If you like, you can then place items back one by one or in groups and relaunch Safari, checking for recurrence of the issue in order to isolate the problematic component.

Take the following exemplary case from MacFixIt reader Tony Lucente:

Safari 3 would always crash while loading tabs. Also, I always had to reload pages about 3 times. I removed Safari Stand ~/Library/Input Managers and now everything works great.

Check for add-on updates It is also worth mentioning that many Input Managers and other Safari add-ons have been revised since Safari 3.0 Beta's release for compatibility. Check our sister-site VersionTracker for the latest updates.

iChat slowness A number of readers have reported significant lag in sending and receiving instant messages in iChat after applying the Safari 3.0 beta update.

In some cases, these problems are due to third-party iChat add-ons like Chax or ChatFX. Try disabling or uninstalling these products and check for elimination of the issue.

In other cases, only uninstalling Safari 3.0 beta resolves the problem.
