Safari 2.0.1

Stability not improved for some A number of readers report persistence of system-wide freezes (which we have been covering for the past several days) associated with Safari after the 2.0.1 update.

MacFixIt reader Pedro writes:

"Unfortunately update 2.0.1 didn't fix the crazy freezes that Safari makes on my Mac. I regret so much having updated from 10.3.9 to 10.4.2 since i went from a quite stable system (virtually crash proof) to a really buggy one."

Speed increases Several readers report noticeable increases in page loading performance since applying the 2.0.1 update.

Ernst Hefter writes:

"After installing the 2.01 Safari update and a restart, Safari seems to be much faster, some sites took too long earlier, but now it is fine."

Site-specific problems Though reports of problems with specific sites are relatively low for this Safari release when compared with previous revisions, a few readers report issues.

MacFixIt reader Chester Blonkowski writes:

"I completed the Safari update and restarted. Then surfed the web a little checking safari out. Every time I went to www.foodtv.com Safari would crash. Looks like there are still bugs."

Tabbed browsing fails MacFixIt reader Jason reports issues with tabbed browsing since applying the update:

"Wanted to send you a note that every time I set tabbed browsing in preferences Safari quits. If I delete the .plist [Ed.- Jason is referring to the com.apple.Safari.plist file located in ~/Library/Preferences] file I have no problems. I have tried this five times and each time I set tabbed browsing in my preferences and try to surf, Safari crashes."

Safari 1.3.1

Problems with bookmarks MacFixIt reader André Bellemare reports issues with bookmarks in Safari 1.3.1 for Mac OS X 10.3.9:

"Safari quits when I'm trying to have all bookmarks shown to manage them."

Launch issues Huw Gwilliam reports an inability to launch Safari since applying the 1.3.1 update:

"Ran the update today on my eMac running Panther 10.39; It's totally killed Safari - it won't launch at all and neither will the older 1.3 version.

"I was running an extra that extended the functionality of the google search box but I can't really see how that would have broken everything - especially in attempts to run an un-modded version from a totally different machine."

ShapeShifter compatibility Clark Richardson reports issues with the interface add-on ShapeShifter since installing Safari 1.3.1:

"After installing Safari Update for 10.3.9 my Shape Shifter control panel does not operate and reverts back to default theme."

Users lament lack of Mac OS X 10.2.8 update A number of readers are yearning for a Safari update that is Mac OS X 10.2.8-compliant. Henry Rosen writes:

"Why not improve Safari for Mac OS X 10.2.8? We old suckers suffer through many expected 'unexpected quits' by Safari."
