Rock the undead with zombie apocalypse guitar

Decked out with bullet casings and a mock grenade, this axe will tell zombies you mean business. Just don't forget the chords to "Monster Mash."

Travis Stevens

If music can tame the savage beast, could the power of rock reduce brain-hungry zombies to purring kittens?

Guitar hacker Travis Stevens has made a significant contribution to collective self-defense against the coming zombie apocalypse. Along with zombie safe houses and survival kits , his Zombie Apocalypse Electric Guitar could prove a refuge and weapon of last resort.

This tribute to the rise of the undead is a reworked copy of a Fender Stratocaster, but it bears little resemblance to Strats you're used to.

The blood-spattered area around the pick guard is adorned with a detailed relief portraying zombies breaking through a barricade. Below, real bullet casings and a fake grenade highlight the war zone our lives are bound to become.

The maple neck is inlaid with more brass inserts at the traditional fret marker positions. The "apocalypse-battered headstock" is charred, another victim of the zombie war.

The backplate, meanwhile, looks like the doors to a mad scientist's lab, perhaps the birthplace of the zombie horde.

Check out more pics of this axe in the gallery below.

Stevens, who has also created a Han Solo in carbonite guitar, as well as other wacky six-strings, tends to sell his wares on eBay.

The zombie ax was recently on sale for $649. That's a small price to pay for keeping the ghouls at bay.

I'd love to try The Creepshow's "Zombies Ate Her Brain" on this. What would you play?
