RoadRunner login problem and Mac OS 8.5.x: a work-around

CNET staff
Robert Shull reports a new login problem with RoadRunner cable modem service and Mac OS 8.5.x. In particular, the login fails, followed by some error message. He notes: "In a RoadRunner newsgroup, a message suggested that throwing out the TCP preferences file and restarting. Then reset the TCP/IP configuration to Ethernet and DCHP Server. I did this and found that it worked."
Update: Christopher Riess writes that there is no need to restart the Mac after TCP/IP prefs are removed. Simply open the control panel, make the changes, close the control panel and save. "The changes take 15-30 seconds to take effect."
