All summer, CNET reporter Daniel Terdiman has posted the Road Trip Picture of the Day, as part of Road Trip 2010. Each day, readers were tasked with identifying the image, and one would win a prize. Now, with Road Trip 2010 completed, the daily challenge is going weekly. Please come back each Thursday to test your photographic knowledge. Daniel Terdiman/CNET

On June 7, I began what became a daily feature over the next 11 weeks: The Road Trip Picture of the Day challenge. Each day, with the help of CNET summer intern Polina Polishchuk, I posted a mystery photograph and tasked readers with identifying it. Of those who sent me the correct answer, I picked one at random, and that person won a prize.

This was all part of Road Trip 2010, which took me to the East Coast for weeks this summer, and during which I posted dozens of feature stories and full photo galleries on many of the most interesting destinations I could find. Now, Road Trip 2010 is finished, and with it, my accumulation of new photos from the journey.

What that means for Picture of the Day is that it is changing. After today, it is going weekly. Each Thursday for the foreseeable future, I'll post a photo, and the challenge will be the same. But the photo could be from anywhere, and from any time. So stay on your toes.

For me, doing this has been incredibly gratifying, as the project garnered a regular--and committed--audience of people who were intent on figuring out each day's picture, despite their knowing that their odds of winning were small. Many told me that they were doing it strictly for the intellectual challenge, and that it was a lot of fun. Some even said they were planning future travels of their own based on the photos I posted.

To everyone who has been playing Picture of the Day, from the regulars to those who only stopped by once or twice, thanks so much for your participation. It has made keeping the project up and running a great deal of fun, and definitely worth the time.

For most of the summer, Geek Gestalt was on Road Trip 2010. After driving more than 18,000 miles in the Rocky Mountains, the Pacific Northwest, the Southwest, and the Southeast over the last four years, I drove 5,266 miles this summer looking for the best in technology, science, military, nature, aviation and more throughout the American northeast. You can follow me on Twitter at @GreeterDan and @RoadTrip and find the project on Facebook. And you can also test your knowledge of the U.S. and try to win a prize in the Road Trip Picture of the Day challenge.
