RightNow Technologies has hired former Oracle executive Scott Creighton as its new vice president of business development, which could position him to go head-to-head with his former employer.

Creighton, who previously served as Oracle's vice president of global customer relationship management (CRM) marketing, will oversee RightNow's partnerships and global alliances.

RightNow is an on-demand CRM service company that is taking aggressive steps to woo away Oracle CRM customers.

Oracle's CRM business recently received a boost when the database and applications company acquired its former rival Siebel Systems. The deal brought an added bonus to Oracle, which was surprised to find Siebel's on-demand business was stronger than it anticipated.

RightNow said it hopes to benefit not only from Creighton's experience at Oracle but also from his tenure at Siebel, where he held several senior positions. Before joining Oracle, he was most recently Siebel's vice president and general manager of manufacturing and distribution industry solutions.
