Rich golfers get rural broadband funds

Funds to help rural areas build broadband are going to GOP leader's district in Texas instead.

According to Reuters, more than $22 million meant to help bring broadband to rural communities will instead go to help bring fast Net service to suburbs represented by House Republican leader Tom DeLay. The money, from the rural development branch of the United States Department of Agriculture, will help bring faster broadband to planned communities just outside Houston.

This is ludicrous. This is money that was meant to help people that were going to be left off the Net without it, in areas where the cable companies and big phone companies simply weren't going to go. Instead, million dollar homes on golf courses get the nod.

There are some seriously disturbed priorities in this news. Let's hope a little attention helps change that.
